Preventative Dentistry & X-Rays
Preventative dentistry is all about having healthy teeth and gums that will last you a lifetime. No matter your age, our array of preventative dental treatments will allow you to achieve and maintain a healthy, beautiful smile. These treatments include dental x-rays, oral examinations, deep cleanings, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants. Dr. Powell and our team work hard to educate our patients to allow you to make the best decisions regarding preventative measures.
A Few Words About Dental X-Rays…
Dental x-rays are an essential, preventative diagnostic tool that provides valuable information that is not visible during a regular dental exam. Dr. Powell uses this information to safely and accurately detect dental abnormalities and treat any areas before the problem areas worsen. We use the latest in dental technology with the use of digital x-rays, which offer an 80% reduction in radiation from traditional x-rays and have an immediate image which Dr. Powell can share with you to take a closer look and explain any areas that may be in question.
Are dental x-rays safe?
Dental x-rays are considered to be very safe. In fact, the amount of radiation exposure from a full mouth series of x-rays is equal to the amount of radiation that a person receives in a single day from natural sources. However, we take every precaution to limit your exposure to radiation by using lead apron shields to protect your body.
How often should dental x-rays be taken?
Dr. Powell recommends a full mouth series of x-rays for all new patients. A full series is usually good for three to five years. Bite-wing x-rays (x-rays of the top and bottom teeth biting together) are recommended once or twice a year at cleanings to detect any new dental problems.
